There is no single standard door size suitable for every elevator. The required entrance depends on the car, intended users, loads, door arrangement and applicable accessibility requirements. The dimension that matters for passage is the clear opening when the doors are fully open.
Keep that clear opening separate from the larger structural opening needed to install the entrance assembly. A doorway offering 800 mm of usable passage does not imply that the builder should leave an 800 mm wall opening.
Clear opening and construction opening
| Term | Meaning for the project |
|---|---|
| Clear door width and height | The usable passage available with the doors fully open. |
| Entrance assembly dimensions | The space occupied by the specified door, frame, sill and related equipment. |
| Structural opening | The building opening required by the manufacturer’s coordinated layout. |
| Landing approach | The circulation space available for people or equipment to reach the entrance. |
Ask for all relevant dimensions on the drawing. Wall finishes, floor levels and the selected entrance details need to be coordinated before construction dimensions are approved.
Use product examples in the right context
The published FUJI-FHSP50 parameter table includes an 800 × 2,100 mm door opening for listed 630 kg configurations. Other loads and layouts use different openings. This is a product example, not a universal doorway rule.
Confirm the current offered entrance and its construction opening. Do not infer a complete structural detail from a summary table or assume that another model uses the same dimensions.
Choose around real use
A private residence, office, hospital and goods-handling installation have different needs. Review the largest expected mobility aid, trolley, luggage or other item together with the person accompanying it. Include the approach, turning movement and usable car interior.
Door arrangement also affects the layout. Centre-opening and side-opening designs use space differently, and entrances on multiple sides require further coordination. A wider doorway may change the shaft or entrance requirements and should be assessed with the complete elevator configuration.
Accessibility is configuration-specific
Accessibility standards must be applied to the relevant jurisdiction and building type. For example, U.S. ADA Table 407.4.1 specifies different clear widths for different car and door arrangements: its centred-door configuration lists 42 inches, while certain alternatives list 36 inches.
Those figures belong to defined U.S. configurations. They do not establish a single global requirement or automatically approve a home lift, hospital lift or a project in another country. Ask the project designer to identify the applicable criteria and verify the complete arrangement.
Check the entrance as part of the passenger journey
Even a suitable clear opening can be undermined by a tight lobby, a nearby swinging door or an obstruction at the landing. A usable design considers approach, boarding, movement within the car and exit at every served floor.
For a home project, review the home elevator dimensions guide. For commercial buildings, coordinate entrance size with the traffic and operational brief rather than selecting the narrowest available option solely to save space.
Confirm these items before construction
- Clear width and height of the proposed entrance.
- Door type and opening direction at each landing.
- Car dimensions and the intended passengers or loads.
- Structural opening, sill and finished-floor details.
- Landing approach and applicable accessibility requirements.
- Approved manufacturer layout and installation responsibilities.
Send the plans and access requirements to FUJIHD to request an appropriate configuration. The final opening should follow the coordinated project drawing, not a generic “standard size” copied from another building.
